Riviera Tower: A Symbol of the Athenian Riviera’s Transformation

Riviera Tower, located within The Ellinikon near Glyfada, is a key element in the large-scale transformation of the former Ellinikon airport. The project is a residential tower approximately 200 meters high, featuring 50 floors and 170 residences. The building’s architectural design was developed by Foster + Partners, with construction carried out by a joint venture between Bouygues Bâtiment International and Intrakat. Upon completion, it will be the tallest building in Greece and one of the largest ‘green’ residential skyscrapers in the Mediterranean.

Completed Construction Stages

The project’s realization required complex engineering tasks:

• Foundation: Large-scale continuous concrete pouring for the base was completed.
• Substructure: Underground levels and parking facilities are finished.
• Framework: The building core, columns, floor slabs, and balconies were erected sequentially. By 2025, the tower reached the 37th floor, and by the summer of 2026, the main concrete works for the load-bearing structure were fully completed.

Current Works and Outlook

At the current stage, the focus has shifted to interior and facade works. Specialists are installing engineering systems (electrical, ventilation, plumbing, elevator equipment), facade elements, and glazing. Simultaneously, architectural finishing of apartments, terraces, and public areas is underway.

Although this stage is less visible from the outside, it is one of the most labor-intensive, requiring the coordination of hundreds of engineering nodes and strict quality control. According to current data, the completion and opening of the Riviera Tower are expected in 2027. Timelines were adjusted to account for the complexity of high-rise construction, labor shortages, and the need to coordinate multiple contractors.

Impact on the Real Estate Market

The project has a noticeable impact on neighboring Glyfada. The development of The Ellinikon’s infrastructure—including a new park, retail facilities, and a revitalized coastline—increases the investment attractiveness of the entire Athenian Riviera.
